Health Inequities in Washtenaw County must be addressed NOW
Age 67 is the age of eligibility for receiving full Social Security retirement benefits in the United States. In Washtenaw County, the average age of death for Black and Ypsilanti Township residents is 66, and the AAD for Black Ypsilanti Township is 63, compared to 74 years for Washtenaw County. In the past decade, the proportion of Washtenaw County residents living in high poverty (20% or more living below poverty level) census tracts has increased 58%. The ‘Its About Time Report: Building a Bridge Between What We Know and What We Do About Health Equity’ is a call to action for reinvestment and refunding these communities, and relentless dedication towards eliminating health inequities such as these.
